How I transformed this Antique Terracotta Bowl into a candle

There’s something special about giving new life to old objects, and when I stumbled upon a beautiful antique terracotta bowl, I knew it deserved a second chance. Instead of letting it collect dust on a shelf, I decided to turn it into a stunning candle.

This is what you'll need :

  1. A bowl, pot or container

  2. Candle Sand

  3. Candle Wicks

Here’s how I did it:

Step 1: Pick Your Bowl or Pot

The first step is choosing the right vessel. A terracotta bowl is a perfect choice because it’s heat-resistant and has a rustic charm that enhances any space. You can also use ceramic or stoneware bowls, but make sure they’re sturdy enough to handle the heat of burning wicks.

Step 2: Pour in the Candle Sand

For this project I used candle sand, a great alternative to traditional wax candles. Candle sand is easy to work with, allowing you to create a candle in minutes without melting wax. Simply pour it into your chosen bowl until you achieve the desired depth.

Step 3: Add in the Wicks

Next, insert the candle wicks into the sand. The number of wicks depends on the size of your bowl - larger bowls require more wicks for an even burn. Make sure they stand upright and are spaced out evenly to distribute the flame properly.

Step 4: Light the Wicks and Enjoy!

Once the wicks are in place, light them and watch as your antique bowl transforms into a beautiful glowing centrepiece. The flickering flames add warmth and ambiance, making it the perfect addition to any cosy space.

This DIY project is simple, yet the result is both elegant and practical. Not only does it bring new life to an old bowl, but it also creates a candle that can be easily refilled with fresh candle sand whenever needed.
